- I purchased an economy round-trip ticket from Seattle to Manchester for $720.
- On my return flight to the US, I was unexpectedly upgraded to business class.
- The business-class experience was enjoyable but not worth the full fare for me.
As a Brit residing in Seattle who frequently travels between the US and England, I appreciate a comfortable flying experience. Therefore, when I received an upgrade to business class on British Airways this past summer, it was quite thrilling.
I initially booked an economy round-trip ticket costing around $720 from Seattle to Manchester. On my return trip to the US via London layover, something unexpected happened at the gate.
Upon scanning my boarding pass for boarding access, the gate agent handed me a new ticket indicating that I had been upgraded to British Airways’ Club World—its long-haul business-class section. This upgrade came as part of British Airways’ significant investment of $9 billion over two years aimed at enhancing its aircrafts and customer services amidst declining popularity. Naturally, I was eager to see how this would unfold during my flight.

A Worthwhile Upgrade Only If Priced Right
In summary: My time spent in British Airways’ Club World cabin proved enjoyable overall. Having experienced both economy and premium classes with them before; I’d consider paying extra if there were discounts available!
A quick search revealed that booking a similar seat during peak times could cost around £9k or approximately $11k! While pleasant enough; such prices are beyond what I’d be willing to spend again anytime soon!
This upgrade certainly made returning home feel more luxurious than usual!
