Dystopika, available on Steam for Windows, epitomizes city-building in perhaps the most literal sense possible. This game intentionally avoids overwhelming players with extraneous details unrelated to construction. According to its sole developer, Matt Marshall, it features “No goals, no management—just creativity and dark cozy vibes.” The gameplay lacks explicit instructions on how to proceed; there is no single best way to engage with it. Your primary task is simply to immerse yourself in crafting an intriguing cyberpunk metropolis that can be beautiful or bleak according to your vision.
The Gameplay Mechanics: Simple Yet Engaging
The user interface consists of a compact rail located on the left side of your screen. By selecting “Building,” you will see a random shape appear attached to your cursor. You can right-click if you wish to alter this shape but cannot choose one directly from a list. Once placed, you have the option to adjust its height by moving your cursor near its top edge; increasing one building’s height will also elevate smaller structures nearby. Although certain conditions such as reaching specific heights or densities (the criteria are not clearly defined) will lead you toward unlocking new buildings and decorative elements.
