In a bid to modernize its Maverick pickup for the 2025 model year, Ford has introduced several enhancements that may capture your attention. Notably, the hybrid version makes its return—customers can now opt for an all-wheel-drive hybrid variant in addition to the standard front-wheel-drive option.
During our evaluation of the Maverick in 2021, we were pleasantly surprised by its performance, particularly with respect to the front-wheel-drive hybrid engine. This powertrain delivered an impressive output of 191 hp (142 kW) while achieving fuel efficiency ratings surpassing 42 mpg (5.6 L/100 km). The vehicle’s compact dimensions set it apart from many oversized pickups currently available on the market; however, it still boasts a commendable payload capacity of up to 1,500 lbs (680 kg) and a towing capability of approximately 2,000 lbs (907 kg), all starting at just under $20k—excluding destination fees.
The base offering included the reliable 2.5 L hybrid powertrain, while buyers could choose an optional more robust 2.0 L EcoBoost hybrid available with both front and all-wheel drive configurations. Unfortunately, recent supply chain disruptions forced Ford to eliminate this standard feature for model year MY24.
