Rep. Mike Garcia Concedes to George Whitesides in California House Race
On Tuesday, Representative Mike Garcia, a Republican from California, acknowledged his defeat against Democratic contender George Whitesides as the final results of House races across the nation began to emerge.
Although Garcia has conceded, the Associated Press has not yet officially declared Whitesides as the winner. As of Tuesday morning, with 83% of ballots counted, Whitesides is leading by a narrow margin of 2 points—approximately 7,000 votes ahead.
“Serving this great country since I turned 18 has been a profound honor,” Garcia expressed in his statement. “Representing California’s 27th Congressional District for the past four and a half years has truly been an incredible privilege.”
Garcia also took time to express gratitude towards his family, staff members, and volunteers who supported his campaign efforts.

“I had a conversation with George Whitesides this evening to congratulate him on his victory,” Garcia added. “I will ensure that all ongoing constituent casework is smoothly transitioned to him and his team.”
Whitesides responded positively to Garcia’s concession via social media after their phone call.
“Rep. Garcia reached out earlier today to concede the race; I thanked him for his dedicated service both locally and nationally,” wrote Whitesides. “In Congress, I will strive tirelessly to create more local job opportunities, reduce everyday expenses for families, enhance community safety measures, safeguard Social Security and Medicare benefits while also defending reproductive rights.”
