FBI Warns of Deceptive Videos Ahead of Elections
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released a statement on Saturday addressing the circulation of misleading videos in the context of the upcoming elections. The agency has identified two specific videos that falsely claim to originate from them regarding election security matters. One video alleges that the FBI has “apprehended three groups involved in ballot fraud,” while another concerns Kamala Harris’ spouse, both containing fabricated information according to the FBI.
The Threat of Disinformation in Elections
The proliferation of disinformation—particularly through political deepfakes and other misleading visual content—has emerged as a significant issue as the U.S. presidential election approaches. In their announcement shared on X, the FBI emphasized:
“Ensuring election integrity is one of our top priorities. The FBI collaborates closely with state and local law enforcement agencies to address threats to elections and safeguard communities as citizens exercise their voting rights. Attempts to mislead the public with false narratives about our operations undermine democracy and seek to diminish trust in our electoral processes.”

Collaboration Against Foreign Influence Operations
A day prior, a joint statement was issued by the FBI along with the Office of Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). They reported tracing two additional deceptive videos back to “Russian influence actors.” One such video inaccurately portrayed individuals claiming Haitian nationality who were allegedly voting illegally across several counties in Georgia.
