Apple’s endeavor to develop its own wireless chips has been extensive, but it appears that a breakthrough may be approaching. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently shared on X that Apple plans to implement its proprietary Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips starting with the iPhone 17, anticipated for release in the latter half of next year.
Kuo also concurs with a report from 9to5Mac, indicating that the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch in spring 2025, will be the first model equipped with Apple’s custom-built 5G modem. However, he notes that this device will still rely on Broadcom’s third-party Wi-Fi chip while the iPhone 17 will debut both an Apple-designed modem and Wi-Fi chip.
