In recent discussions, Senator JD Vance from Ohio has openly expressed his concerns about how President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the election race has upset GOP plans for 2024.
During an exclusive fundraiser in Golden Valley, Minnesota, he disclosed to attendees that they all experienced what felt like a “political jolt.” These remarks followed closely after Biden officially announced his exit from running on July 21.
The Democratic Party quickly unified behind Vice President Kamala Harris upon Biden’s departure. She was designated as the presumed nominee just days later.
Vance noted that this rapid rise of Harris is significant and potentially perilous for Republican prospects. “The unfortunate reality is that unlike Biden, who carries past controversies or challenges, Kamala brings less baggage to her candidacy and presents herself as a younger alternative,” he commented during his address.
His candid observations mark a deviation from the confidence typically associated with his campaign in light of Biden stepping aside.
On social media platforms like Truth Social, former President Donald Trump has criticized Harris vehemently stating she would be detrimental for America.
In response to inquiries for commentary on this matter, spokesperson William Martin stated that numerous polls show Trump currently leading against Harris. He asserted: “Her progressive policies resonate even more negatively than those of Joe Biden among critical swing states essential for this election such as Pennsylvania and Michigan.”
It is worth noting that this isn’t the first instance where Trump’s team has indicated they favored running against Biden instead of other Democrats. Back in mid-June during an interview with Tim Alberta of The Atlantic, advisor Susie Wiles referred to Biden as a “gift” for Trump’s campaign strategy.
Further reports published right around July 21 highlighted Wiles highlighting worries over other potential Democratic candidates rather than expressing concern about competing against an incumbent president.
Representatives close to Kamala Harris’s campaign did not immediately offer comments when approached outside standard office hours.
