In light of growing concerns regarding the reliability of its artificial intelligence offerings, Microsoft is urging users to exercise caution in their reliance on these tools.
The tech giant has rolled out a revised Service Agreement, emphasizing that its AI solutions should be viewed as supplementary information rather than a substitute for expert consultation.
This new agreement, which will take effect at the end of next month, also warns users about relying excessively on the company’s Health Bots due to apprehensions about misplaced trust in their recommendations.
Microsoft Highlights the Limitations of AI Technology
According to Microsoft’s newly updated terms, it explicitly states that its Assistive AI services are “not structured or intended as replacements for professional advice.”
Furthermore, it emphasizes that Health Bots “are not meant nor designed to serve as alternatives to professional medical guidance or for diagnosing, curing, mitigating, preventing, or treating any diseases or health-related conditions.”
This update comes amid a spike in the adoption and use of AI technologies following innovations such as ChatGPT. The shift has sparked ongoing discussions regarding accuracy issues and concerns over data privacy and security.
The agreement reinforces that Copilot AI Experiences are regulated under Bing’s Terms of Use and highlights restrictions against data extraction through unauthorized methodologies like scraping without explicit consent from Microsoft.
In addition to these points, stricter regulations concerning reverse engineering of AI models have been implemented. It specifies: “You must not utilize the AI services for uncovering any underlying components related to models, algorithms, and systems.”
Moreover, Microsoft prohibits employing its AI-generated data for creating or enhancing other artificial intelligence services.
The enhancements across various Microsoft products indicate an effort by the company to address liability issues while managing user expectations more effectively. They also act as a reminder that despite advances in technology, human experts remain irreplaceable in many critical domains.
