A New Chapter in Global Health: The WHO and Republic of Korea Collaboration
The collaboration between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Republic of Korea has a rich history that spans over 75 years, reflecting a profound transformation. Initially recognized as a recipient of aid, South Korea has since evolved into a key donor nation. This transition underscores its influential role in spearheading global health initiatives and addressing pressing international healthcare challenges.

Strengthening Ties Through Strategic Dialogues
To solidify their commitment to tackling global health issues collaboratively, WHO and South Korea organized their second Strategic Dialogue held on August 28-29, 2024, in Seoul. Leading the delegation from WHO was Dr. Catharina Boehme, who was supported by an extensive team present both physically and virtually across various organizational levels—from headquarters to regional offices.
On the Korean side, Dr. Hye-Jin Kim directed an assembly of senior officials including Dr. Young-Mee Jee from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency as well as representatives from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
