The Fox News Decision Desk has announced that Republicans are projected to maintain their majority in the House of Representatives.
The exact number of seats they will secure hinges on the results from several key districts still awaiting final counts.
Currently, there are nine races that remain undecided: Alaska’s at-large district, California’s 9th, 13th, 21st, and 45th districts, Iowa’s 1st district, Maine’s 2nd district, Ohio’s 9th district, and Oregon’s 5th district.
Republicans reached the crucial threshold of 218 seats after Juan Ciscomani’s victory in Arizona’s 6th District. This first-term Republican successfully defeated Democrat Kirsten Engel in a rematch following their close contest during the midterms of 2022.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) released a statement celebrating this majority win as a result of a “historically challenging cycle,” emphasizing their unwavering focus and dedication throughout the process.
“They claimed it was impossible; however, the American electorate has made its voice heard. As NRCC Chairman from day one my goal has been to preserve our House majority,” stated NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson. “It is evident today that we have achieved this objective despite facing significant challenges.”
“The American public is tired of extreme Democratic policies that have led to open borders and rampant inflation while allowing drugs and crime to infiltrate our neighborhoods,” he continued. “With a Republican-led House alongside President Donald Trump back in office and a new Senate majority emerging soon, assistance is on its way. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with my newly elected colleagues to rectify the issues created by Democrats through an America First agenda.”
Leadership Continuity Amid Challenges

Mike Johnson, who ascended to speakership last year after resolving internal conflicts within the party leadership structure, is expected to continue serving as Speaker for his second term.
A Turbulent Term for House Republicans
This comes despite an eventful tenure characterized by intense disputes over government spending policies and unprecedented actions leading to the removal of a sitting Speaker from office.
A Shift in Political Dynamics
In October 2023, many viewed Republicans’ chances at retaining control over the House as bleak due to internal strife following ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ousting by all Democrats along with eight dissenting Republicans.
The political landscape shifted when Democrats faced their own leadership turmoil as prominent progressives urged President Biden not to seek re-election following his poor performance against former President Trump during debates.
An Unexpected Boost for Democrats?
Vice President Kamala Harris provided some momentum for Democrats when she stepped into Biden’s role; however, it proved insufficient for bolstering their candidates ahead of November elections significantly enough.
- $5M INVESTMENT BY CLUB FOR GROWTH IN COMPETITIVE HOUSE RACES AS GOP PREPARES FOR A CHALLENGING ELECTION SEASON
- House Majority Leader Steve Scalise noted last month that he anticipated around forty-five races would determine control over Congress moving forward.
- “Only about ten percent—approximately forty-five seats—are genuinely competitive,” Scalise explained regarding battleground districts being evenly split between Republican-held and Democrat-held territories.
- “We are actively supporting incumbents facing tough contests while also identifying challengers capable of flipping Democratic seats into Republican hands.”
