Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas announced on Tuesday that she will remain in her role and will not be joining President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration in Washington, D.C.
“I have already declared my intention to run for re-election, and I am excited about continuing my service in this capacity for the next six years,” Sanders stated when questioned about a potential return to the White House. “So unfortunately, and hopefully, you all are stuck with me for a while.”
Having served as the 31st White House press secretary during Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2019, Sanders transitioned into politics by winning the governorship of Arkansas in 2021 with Trump’s endorsement. This victory made her the first female governor of Arkansas and also positioned her as the youngest sitting governor across the United States.
In addition to her gubernatorial duties, Sanders has actively supported Trump’s campaign for re-election in 2024 and has participated in numerous rallies alongside him. Notably, her father, former Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, was recently nominated by Trump to become the next U.S. ambassador to Israel.

“The only member of my family who will be joining this administration is my dad,” Sanders remarked on Tuesday.
Trump publicly announced Huckabee’s nomination as U.S ambassador to Israel on Tuesday through a statement praising him as “Highly Respected.”
“Mike has been an exemplary public servant and leader throughout his career,” Trump expressed. “He holds a deep affection for Israel and its people; likewise, they hold great respect for him. Mike will dedicate himself tirelessly towards achieving peace in the Middle East.”

“My first trip to Israel was with my dad when I was eleven years old; it profoundly impacted me,” she shared on X (formerly Twitter). ”There is no one President Trump could have chosen who possesses greater love for Israeli citizens or commitment towards strengthening America-Israel relations than him.” She concluded with an affectionate message: “Love you dad!”
