Tesla Faces Major Recall Due to Safety Concerns with Hood Latches
This month, Tesla has launched an extensive recall to address issues related to faulty hood latches that pose a risk of opening while the vehicles are in motion. This recall impacts approximately 1.8 million vehicles, which is marginally less than a prior December recall affecting over 2 million Teslas.
Details of the Affected Models
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) outlined specifics regarding this concern in its official Part 573 safety recall report. The models impacted include:
- Model 3 from the years 2021–2024 (manufactured between September 21, 2020, and June 2, 2024)
- Model S from the years 2021–2024 (produced between January 26, 2021, and July 15, 2024)
- Model X for years ranging from 2021–2024 (constructed between August 18, 2021 and July15 , of the same year)
- Model Y spanning model years from —20 to—24 (units made from January9 ,20 up until July15 ,20)
Background of the Issue
The issue first came to light for Tesla in March after receiving multiple reports of inadvertent hood openings from consumers in China. By April’s conclusion ,they pinpointed that deformation within the hood latch switch was at fault; this malfunction could hinder drivers’ ability to receive notifications indicating an open hood.
