Ørsted, a leader in offshore wind energy development, has announced a postponement of the operational commencement for its Revolution Wind initiative situated off the shores of Rhode Island and Connecticut.
This delay represents yet another challenge to the Biden administration’s ambitious targets for advancing clean energy through new offshore wind projects, which have been hindered by various obstacles since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project’s launch has now shifted from an anticipated start next year to 2026, as stated by Ørsted in their most recent report. The primary issue arises from land-based concerns. Ørsted’s collaborator on this venture, Eversource Energy, is currently tasked with constructing a substation at an old naval facility where unforeseen soil contamination issues are taking longer than initially expected to remediate.
