“Absolutely not,” stated Vance when asked if he thought Trump was disillusioned by his pick. “I anticipated a brief period of favorable press, followed by relentless critiques of my past statements and actions.” He acknowledged this is part of the political landscape: “Joining a national ticket comes with its share of challenges; you have to be ready to withstand attacks.”
Vance underscored that those thriving in politics often resist change, particularly when it threatens their established status or interests.
Tackling Immigration Policies Head-On
As vice president, Vance indicated a firm commitment to reforming immigration policies—essentially reversing initiatives led by Vice President Kamala Harris following her appointment in 2021 to address illegal immigration issues under President Biden’s administration.
“Strong leadership requires strong borders,” he articulated during a recent rally. “Many criticisms aside, one major issue Kathleen Harris caused was leaving our nation vulnerable and fragile—alongside covering up concerns surrounding Biden’s mental acuity over time.” He asserted that America’s adversaries are eager to exploit perceived weaknesses on the global stage due to soft leadership from U.S officials.
Acknowledging Past Remarks
In response to past comments used against him by Democrats—including an interview where he referred disparagingly to some Democratic women—Vance clarified but did not retract his remarks during conversations with NBC News. He explained: “My focus has always been on critiquing what I see as dangerous ideologies among certain leaders—ones suggesting people should avoid having children due to climate concerns can lead us astray.” He reinforced that while climate change is indeed serious, it shouldn’t deter individuals from family planning.
Solidarity Among Supporters
Diverse figures within the Republican Party have rallied behind Vance amid these challenges. Representative Anna Paulina Luna from Florida publicly defended him at rallies across Nevada, condemning claims framed against him as anti-women propaganda: ”This narrative is laughable coming from a party struggling even to define what constitutes a woman!” she remarked during her speeches alongside prominent Trump adviser Jason Miller and Vance himself.
