A prominent coalition advocating for major film production companies has announced its successful partnership with Vietnamese government officials to dismantle what they describe as “the world’s largest illegal streaming network.”
The Fmovies Takeover
The group identified Fmovies as this massive piracy operation and reported that it had amassed over 6.7 billion visits from January 2023 to June 2024 alone. Established in 2016 and based in Hanoi, this network hosted several other illicit sites including bflixz, flixtorz, movies7, myflixer, and aniwave.
A Standout Achievement for the Creative Industry
“The shutdown of Fmovies marks a remarkable success for actors, writers, directors, producers—and indeed all creatives worldwide,” expressed Charles Rivkin today as the CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
This significant action underscores a growing effort to combat online piracy that undermines both theatrical releases and streaming services globally.
With ongoing trends indicating increases in digital content consumption—statistics show that around 80% of internet users engaged with streaming video services last year—the importance of protecting intellectual property cannot be overstated.
The MPA’s initiative represents not just a legal victory but also a clear message about the value placed on creative works amidst rising threats from piracy.
